Lago Vista, Texas

This Travis County town about 20 miles north of Austin finally realized a dream when construction began in earnest in April, 2003 for the development of the town's first public park. Begun in the early 1970's, Lago Vista was initially a subdivision development on the shores of Lake Travis. After incorporation as a municipality in the 1980's, this city of under 10,000 felt it needed a public park.

After several attempts at funding under the highly competitive Texas Recreation and Parks Account, Lago Vista finally scored high enough to win $500,000 in matching funds to go along with over $750,000 local bond funds and donations. The Lago Vista Property Owners Association contributed $100,000 to the effort.

Lago Vista ISD contributed the 8.0 acre site for the city's initial venture into public parks.

The project includes two lighted tennis courts, a granite walking trail, picnicking facilities, a competitive pool with a leisure pool area and a beautiful bath house. Also built under this project are parking and roads, demonstration gardens and a play fountain. Total project ran about $1.4 million after all donations are counted.

The pictures show the tennis courts following water flood testing and construction of the swimming pool and bath house through completion. Note the spectacular views of the Lake Travis basin and Balcones Region which make this one of the best sites for a swimming pool and tennis court in all of Texas. The project site is very steep however, falling over 70 feet in elevation from front to back.

The project was completed in May, 2004. The general contractor for the project was Royal Vista Construction Company.
